Assignment 10
TONAL
GRADATION
Goals: 1. To
observe how tone is relative and how it can be changed by the negative space
around it.
2. To
develop a better ability to control and place tone in a neat organized manner.
Did you achieve an even tone in each box without smearing?
3. TO SEE
IF WE CAN ACHIEVE A TRUE FEELING OF THE MID TONE BEING IN THE EXACT CENTER
BETWEEN THE WHITE OF THE PAGE AND THE DARKEST BLACK OF THE PENCIL.
Using a SOFT
pencil set up a rectangle that is 2 and 1/2 inches wide and 10 inches long,
with a 1/2 in strip running down the center of the rectangle.
Set up a value
scale going from blackest black to the white of the paper on both sides of the
1/2 in. strip starting with the same tone on the same end. You may use a broken
tone of 10 squares or a smooth gradation of tone.
